Where has Social Media come from?

by karen on May 15, 2009

The Big Picture segment this month discusses how social media marketing came into being.

It’s fas from being a flash in the pan fuelled by technology. Although, technology has helped provide low cost tools from which to promote your business.

But, promoting, the way marketing is changing is the most interesting.

There are three strands to marketing:

  1. The traditional approach where elements are ceasing to be as effective
  2. The new media approach revolves around edutaining people and with that comes clients, advocates, joint ventures and collaborations.
  3. Then there’s the hybrid version taking what works in both to grow your business.

But, it’s not all sorted! As social media marketing evolves so too, will the way it is implemented in business. It’s all open but within the reach of even the smallest of companies.

Larger companies are still trying to use broadcasting tools within the social media environment. This gives small and medium sized businesses the advantage for a period of time. Take it and you will have a sustainable advantage in your market.
